Elvish, snake venom and the boAt controversy

Some creators seem to thrive on controversy.

YouTuber Elvish Yadav, who walked away with the crown of  season 2 of Bigg Boss OTT recently,  was just recovering from a spat with electronics brand ‘boAt’, when he appears to have landed in bigger trouble.

While still being in the news for entering the debut season of Temptation Island India, the influencer made headlines again by being named by the Noida police for supplying snake venom to a rave party in the NCR last week. While another YouTuber Gaurav Taneja has spoken up in defence of Elvish, posting on his X account that FIR under Sec 154 CrPC only means someone has registered a fact (as per him) against the suspect, and the investigating officer will try to collect evidence. “People use this tool all the time to damage image of their opponents”, he posted.

A fellow influencer’s support may not be enough for Elvish, who has protested his innocence. A few weeks ago, he slammed electronics brand boAt for ‘personal mockery’, when the brand  showed a video featuring an Elvish song and a damaged boAt speaker.

Elvish tweeted, “The @RockWithboAt company has reached a new low by using personal mockery to promote its brand. It’s disgraceful that they believe this approach is acceptable. An apology is expected, or I will personally urge #ElvishArmy not to buy your products @amangupta0303.”

However, boAt clarified that the video was not commissioned by them and was a result of an algorithmic response to a positive comment.

Notably, boAt’s founder, Aman Gupta, is an investor in Shark Tank India. In a recent Walmart Converge event, Gupta highlighted the free promotion the brand receives when Shark Tank is aired, reducing their need for marketing for about three months.

For Elvish, it appears, staying in the news comes naturally!
