Vir Das Roasts Celebs’ Maldives Dilemma: To Post or Not to Post?
In a hilarious turn of events, comedian Vir Das has taken a swipe at Indian celebrities and influencers caught in a ‘delete or post’ sitch over their Maldives vacation photos.
What’s the controversy? So, Modi Ji took a beach vacay, posted some pics, and bam – Maldives was in hot water! Why? because some Maldivian officials called him names, got suspended, and now #BoycottMaldives is going viral. Bollywood biggies like Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Jahnvi Kapoor, etc. are all in favor. A new hashtag for Lakshadweep is being used #ChaloLakshadweep as a protest against Maldives. Even the travel site EaseMyTrip joined in, saying, “No more flights to Maldives!”
Firstly, happy Lakshadweep is getting some love! Secondly, Somewhere in the Maldives, right now, is an Indian celebrity/influencer, who didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos ever, and is TERRIFIED to post them 🙂

Das, known for his sharp wit, couldn’t resist poking fun at the situation on Twitter. He said, “Firstly, happy Lakshadweep is getting some love! Secondly, Somewhere in the Maldives, right now, is an Indian celebrity/influencer, who didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos ever, and is TERRIFIED to post them.”
In his next tweet, he upped the last tweet, proclaiming, “Next actor to post a honeymoon photo from Madh Island is getting a National Award. Pakka.”
Not stopping there, Das threw in a sly Epstein reference, stating, “Remember thinking Epstein would be the most discussed island this week?” Social media exploded with reactions, with one user suggesting that some celebrities had taken money from the government for promoting Lakshadweep.
Vir Das’ humorous take on the Maldives photos controversy adds a refreshing and light-hearted perspective to the unfolding drama. Through his witty commentary, Das not only highlights the comical side of the situation but also underlines the power dynamics and sensitivity in diplomatic relations played out on social media platforms.
