In a historic move, Saudi Arabia’s announcement of the Esports World Cup in 2024 has sent ripples through the global gaming community, with India poised to play a pivotal role in this transformative journey. The Esports World Cup, set to kick off in Riyadh, not only cements Saudi Arabia as a prominent gaming hub but also opens new doors of opportunity for the Indian Esports community, attracting investments and offering a global platform for players to showcase their skills.

Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice-President of Asian Esports Federation, lauded the momentous occasion, stating, “The announcement of the Esports World Cup is indeed a historic moment for the global Esports community. This tournament will serve as a catalyst for change and growth, both on the global Esports map and in India. For a country with a predominantly mobile-focused gaming culture like ours, this event’s massive prize pool and diverse title offerings will undoubtedly motivate our Esports athletes and aspiring gamers to broaden their horizons and branch out to different titles. We see the Esports World Cup as an exciting platform that not only celebrates Esports but also unites the industry’s stakeholders on a global scale.”

The magnitude of the Esports World Cup is expected to surpass previous tournaments, with data from Gamers8 indicating the 2023 edition recorded a cumulative viewership of 1.3 billion and peak concurrent viewers reaching 1 million. The event attracted sponsorship from global brands such as Adidas, Pepsico, Aramco, and Razer.

Animesh Agarwal, also known as 8Bit Thug, Co-founder of S8UL and Founder & CEO of 8Bit Creatives, emphasized the transformative potential of the tournament for the Indian Esports ecosystem. Mayank Prajapati, aka MiKeYROG, who represented India in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition at the Asian Games 2022, sees the Esports World Cup as a window of opportunity for every gamer in India.

Esports in India has witnessed remarkable growth, with the nation fielding a historic 15-member contingent at the Asian Games 2022. In addition, the recent announcement by the International Olympic Committee regarding the creation of the Olympic Esports Games aligns with Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the Esports World Cup, providing Indian talents yet another global platform to showcase their skills.

In conclusion, the Esports World Cup stands as a transformative force for India in the global Esports arena. As the tournament approaches, anticipation is high, and the stage is set for Indian Esports athletes to proudly represent the nation, break boundaries, and ascend to new heights on the world stage. The Esports World Cup is not just a tournament; it’s a stepping stone for India to solidify its place on the global Esports map.
