Indian Influencer's Unique Test of Walking Japan's Streets In White Socks Goes Viral

An Indian influencer’s unconventional approach to testing Japan’s reputation for cleanliness has sparked intense online debate and garnered over 26 million views. Simran Balar Jain, known on Instagram as @simranbalarjain, tried a simple yet striking experiment: walking through Japanese streets wearing nothing but pristine white socks. Her goal? To put Japan’s reputation as “one of the cleanest countries in the world” to the test.

White Socks Challenge

The viral video begins with Jain purchasing a new pair of white socks from a local store. Rather than keeping them protected, she does the unthinkable – removes her shoes and steps onto the busy streets of Japan wearing only these fresh white socks. The footage shows her confidently traversing zebra crossings and footpaths, her shoes held casually in hand.

Most remarkable was the outcome: according to Jain’s video, the socks remained virtually spotless despite their contact with city streets. The camera zooms in to reveal socks that appear nearly as clean as when they left the store, seemingly validating Japan’s reputation for immaculate public spaces.

Netizens have Mixed Reactions

The experiment has sparked diverse reactions across social media platforms. While many viewers expressed amazement at the results, others raised skepticism about the video’s authenticity:

“I’m shocked – how are the socks still this clean?” wrote one impressed viewer.

However, long-term residents of Japan offered different perspectives. One comment noted: “I have been living in Japan for over 25 years and I can guarantee that the results in the video are fake. Japan is clean but not so clean that there is not a single particle of dust on that sock.”

Others questioned the methodology: “You’re literally in the same exact spot, you clearly just put the socks on, stood up sat back down, showed them off then walked around,” observed a skeptical viewer.

“Try with black socks in India.. it works”

While the video’s authenticity remains debated, it has successfully sparked conversations about cleanliness standards in different cultures. Japan’s reputation for cleanliness stems from deeply ingrained cultural practices and social responsibility – from removing shoes before entering homes to regular community cleaning initiatives.

Whether or not Jain’s experiment accurately reflects Japan’s cleanliness levels, it has certainly achieved its goal of generating discussion about public hygiene standards worldwide. As one commenter humorously noted, “Try with black socks in India.. it works” – highlighting how such experiments can prompt reflection on cleanliness practices across different societies.
