Why Mozi Might Be the Social App We’ve Been Waiting For
"Mozi is the private social network that helps you build real-word relationships," says Evan Williams (Founder of Twitter and Medium)
As someone who’s grown tired of the endless scroll of perfectly curated content and performative social media, I’ve been craving something different. A way to actually stay connected with the people who matter most in my life – not just watch their highlight reels or get lost in algorithmic noise.
Enter Mozi, the brainchild of Twitter and Medium co-founder Evan Williams. And honestly? It might just be the breath of fresh air our digital social lives desperately need.
A Social App That Actually Feels Social
Imagine an app that doesn’t care about likes, followers, or how photogenic your lunch looks. Mozi is refreshingly simple: it’s about connecting with the people you actually know in real life. No influencers, no public performances, just genuine human connection.
The core idea is brilliantly straightforward. When I’m traveling somewhere, I can add my trip details, and suddenly I can see which of my actual friends – not random internet acquaintances – are in the same city. It’s like having a digital friend finder that respects your privacy.
There are no public profiles. No endless scrolling. No content creation pressure.
Instead, it’s a private network that helps you do one thing really well: stay connected with the people who actually matter in your life.
The app syncs with your contacts, keeps information updated, and helps you discover potential meetups. Going to a conference? You can see which of your actual contacts might be attending. Visiting a new city? Find out who you know there without broadcasting it to the entire internet.
Why I think it might be a great app?
We’ve lost something in our current social media landscape. What started as a way to connect has become a performance platform where everyone’s competing for attention. Mozi feels like a return to what social technology should be about: bringing people together, not keeping them apart through screens.
For those of us who are tired of feeling simultaneously over-connected and disconnected, Mozi offers a promising alternative. It’s not about growing a massive follower count, but about nurturing the relationships that genuinely enrich our lives.
Want to Mozi around?
Currently available on iOS (with an Android waitlist), Mozi is still in its early stages. But the vision is clear: create a tool that makes maintaining real-world connections easier, not more complicated.
As someone who has felt increasingly disconnected in our hyper-connected world, I’m excited about the possibility of an app that prioritizes meaningful interactions over meaningless engagement.
Mozi isn’t just another social app. It’s a reminder that technology can bring us closer together – in the most human sense of the word.
