The Flipside of Instagram: New Feature Update
To post or not to post – that is the question. Arguably one of those things that only millennials and newer generations have to deal with. And here, we’re talking specifically about posting on Instagram.
We’ve all been there; “Should I post this? Ah, but I don’t want certain people to see it.” The alternative that most have resorted to is by creating another profile where they only keep their close friends. Instagram finally caught up with this little issue and worked on their latest new experiment: Flipside.
What is Flipside on Instagram?
Meta-owned Instagram head Adam Mosseri has announced the testing phase of a new feature called Flipside. This feature will allow users to have more control over what followers can view on their profile grid. On adding the Flipside feature, users will be able to swipe down on their main profile and “flip” it over to the private “side”. This private flipside profile grid can only be viewed by users that the account holder gives access too, similar to the “close friends” list on Stories.
When will Flipside be launched?
Initially, there was talk about this feature being tested and launched in 2023, but to no avail. Currently, the feature is only being tested and there is no official announcement of it being launched. On the official blog, Mosseri declared that they are not even sure if they will be launching Flipside on Instagram yet. It is only being checked for viability and only certain users will be part of this test right now. They intend to check how people respond to the test and will then move forward accordingly.
On learning of the possibility of this feature, most users online have posted positive reactions and are excited for it. Being able to share pictures and videos on the grid with a select audience without having to create another account is definitely something that would make the app more user-friendly. While some are concerned about minors using it without parental controls being implemented, Instagram is likely to use the data available on accounts to provide the feature solely to users above 18 years of age.
The official launch of this new feature is uncertain, but an experiment we hope is successful.
