Anisha Dixit shares Ola driver's 'suicide scam'; video goes viral

Content creator and popular social media influencer Anisha Dixit has gone public with a  recent experience in which she claims she got scammed by an Ola cab driver in Mumbai.

This post drew several reactions with netizens averring that they too had been the victim of similar scams. In her video, Anisha shared how an Ola cab driver expressed suicidal thoughts throughout the ride.

In the video, posted on her Instagram profile, Anisha mentioned that she booked an Ola cab from her home in Bandra. The moment she got in the cab, the driver started to cry inconsolably, she said. The driver then asked her if she would complain about him. Later, he told her that he had lost his father recently, and that his wallet had been stolen an hour ago and he had no money. The driver told Anisha that he had no other option but to die by suicide. In spite of Anisha’s several attempts to console him, the driver remained inconsolable, making her uncomfortable and suspicious. Later, Anisha asked the driver to park as she wanted to make an urgent call. According to Anisha Dixit, the driver then left on his own.

She captioned the video, “I was not sure if I should post this online, but i thought this might be a NEW SCAM going around. It really made me feel uncomfortable and if this really is a SCAM to get a big amount of money out of Passengers then its Very Important that I share this and make people aware about this new scam. Please let me know if this has happened to anybody else. @olacabs please look into this matter.”

She later shared another video and informed that she received a call from Ola Cabs after her video went viral. The company assured her that the driver had been fired. In her post, Anisha has mentioned that the driver has been perpetrating the same scam since 2021 and that there were multiple complaints against him.

She wrote: “Apparently This scam has been going on for a while now and you haven’t been taking any proper action against these drivers. From My platform I’m asking & raising this question to the Higher authorities of Ola and the Ceo of Ola cabs @bhavishaggarwal to give explanation and take proper actions against all these complaints.”

This video has helped to bring to light the scam and hopefully nipped it in the bud, and is a good example of the good that social media can do by highlighting social issues. Anisha Dixit, who goes by the handle of Rickshawali on YouTube where she has over 3 million followers, regularly posts content that is relatable to girls and the issues they face, in a humorous vein.
