Actor Karan Kundrra, who has been entertaining his fans with body of work, recently spoke about the difference between social media influencers and actors.

In the world of digital, Karan was asked if he finds tough competition with influencers, and creators. Especially now, with reality shows also opening their doors for social media faces. However, Love Adhura actors Karan Kundrra and Erica Fernandes termed this phase as ‘temporary’, stating that there is a demarcation between influencers and actors. Speaking about the subject, Kundrra said that there is a difference between stardom and popularity.

There is a difference between popularity and stardom

Speaking exclusively to India Today, Karan Kundrra shared, “The industry knows this, but people also need to understand that there is a difference between popularity and stardom. The kind of work that I have done has made me a star, even though my presence on reality shows did bring me popularity. However, when it comes to work, if someone wants to cash in on only my popularity, I immediately say no.”

I have a brand image and one needs to respect that too

Calling himself a ‘business person’, the actor added that he understands his value as an actor and even as an influencer. “I may be working on social media, but my primary job is that of an actor. Hence, when a brand wants to only get me on board for instant popularity, it’s a straight-away no. I have a brand image and one needs to respect that too,” he said.

Erica Fernandes added that the difference has now become “evident and visible”: “Platforms have given a few influencers the chance to act and they did have talent. When they are cast just because they have a social media following, that is also visible and always fails. I think actors and influencers are different categories and you really can’t compare.”

Referring to their latest show, Karan Kundrra said that the platform (Amazon MiniTV) already has tremendous reach. “And this is why they wanted actors who could perform. The script is such that even if one of us faltered, the show would have dropped. This proves that the distinction is very clear,” Kundrra concluded.
