YouTube CEO: AI empowering YouTube Creators?

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan reaffirmed the platform’s mission to empower everyone as both creators and viewers at the YouTube Brandcast 2024. Positioning YouTube as the premier destination for content creators, musicians, artists, and media partners, Mohan highlighted the platform’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation through AI and creator tools.

How does AI empower creators on YouTube?

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has highlighted AI’s transformative impact on the platform, unveiling innovative features like Dream Screen and Dream Track for AI-generated video backgrounds and music. He also introduced the YouTube Create app, designed to simplify mobile content creation.

YouTube is continuously developing new products and features to enhance the experience for both content creators and viewers. A key innovation from the past year is the introduction of Dream Screen, a feature that allows users to create AI-generated video or image backgrounds for their Shorts by simply typing an idea into a prompt. This experimental tool aims to simplify content creation and unlock creative potential.

YouTube’s Dream Screen and Dream Track are innovative AI tools designed to help creators elevate their content. Dream Screen enables users to generate AI-driven video or image backgrounds for their Shorts by simply typing an idea into a prompt. Similarly, Dream Track allows creators to produce music for their videos using text prompts, making it easier to create custom soundtracks and enhance the overall viewing experience.

YouTube has introduced a new app called YouTube Create, designed to help creators generate content directly from their smartphones using AI capabilities. According to a Google blog post, this app is currently in beta testing on Android and is available in select markets.

This app offers a suite of video editing tools, including automatic captions, trimming and precision editing, voiceover, effects and filters, royalty-free music with beat matching technology, and transitions. These features enable content creators to produce high-quality YouTube videos directly from their smartphones without relying on complicated editing software.

What will YouTube’s future look like with AI?

All features in the YouTube Create app are AI generative tools designed to enhance the content creation process without replacing content creators.

Neal emphasizes that humans are inherently interested in the stories of others, which forms the foundation of social media platforms. This interest drives people to stay updated on each other’s lives, fueling engagement and connectivity across these platforms.

AI tools will always prioritize keeping content creators at the forefront in this evolving landscape. YouTube’s investment in AI and Generative AI is centered on developing tools that simplify the content creation process, making it more accessible and efficient. The ultimate goal is to empower creators to build successful businesses through these innovations.

In an interview with the media, Neal revealed that there are over 3 million influencers in the YouTube Partner Program. His goal is to further increase the number of creators participating in the program, as the economic opportunities it provides enable them to continue doing what they love.

In its 2023 “Made for Creators” blog post, YouTube announced plans to introduce more AI-driven tools. One notable addition is the YouTube Studio, which will assist content creators in brainstorming video ideas and drafting outlines. These features will be personalized for each channel based on its audience, enhancing the content creation process.

Additionally, Creator Music will simplify the content creation process by using AI to generate tracks for videos. YouTube is also launching an AI-powered dubbing tool called ‘Alooud,’ designed to help influencers reach broader audiences by making their content accessible in multiple languages.
