Delhi Streets Set to Zip with Electric Bike Taxis Only: AAP’s Game-Changing Move!

In a radical move towards greener and cleaner mobility, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has given the green signal to the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme 2023.

What does this mean? Well, get ready to spot only electric bike taxis cruising the streets of Delhi, as it aims for a complete transition to electric mobility by 2030! And apart from making our rides eco-friendly, Delhi has set its sights on achieving net zero emissions by 2070.

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated that this marks the first time in India that guidelines for aggregators include electrification targets. The scheme isn’t just about reducing emissions; it’s also about putting an end to the wild surge pricing tactics we often encounter with app-based cabs.

From ensuring the cleanliness of the vehicles to keeping tabs on the behavior of the drivers, it’s all in the guidelines. There’s even a section on promptly addressing customer complaints. The rules apply to aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce entities with 25 or more vehicles.

To keep things in check, there are hefty penalties ranging from Rs 5,000 to a whopping Rs 1 lakh for those who decide to disregard the rules.

All existing or new operators have 90 days to jump on the electric bandwagon, or they’ll be left in the dust. Licenses will be valid for five years, and there’s a sweet 50% rebate for vehicles under two years old. Oh, and did we mention zero fees for electric vehicles?

So, get ready for quieter, cleaner, and shockingly smooth rides through the city as electric bike taxis take over the streets!
