IIGC’s New Influencer Ratings – All You Need To Know
The India Influencer Governing Council (IIGC) launches weekly rankings to spotlight the top influencers, brands, and content violations across India's influencer landscape.

India’s influencer marketing industry is booming, and to address the need for structure in this fast-growing space, industry leaders have come together to form rankings. The Indian Influencer Governance Council (IIGC) recently held a Bombay Meet-Up on April 12th, where influencers and industry leaders gathered to discuss the changing dynamics of the creator economy.
Creating a Code of Standards for Ethical Content
The IIGC has launched a 79-page Code of Standards to guide influencers and brands. This code ensures that influencer content is legal, transparent, honest, and socially responsible. The council aims to create a framework that benefits everyone in the ecosystem – influencers, brands, and consumers alike.
The council includes representatives from major brands like
- Tejas Apte, GM – Media & DMC, South, Hindustan Unilever
- Shipra Wahi from Meta
- Prabuddh Jaiswal from Google
- Hari Krishnan, MD – Content, Publicis.
IIGC has emphasised the importance of self-regulation. Sahil Chopra, one of the founding members, highlighted that as the industry is still evolving, most stakeholders are unclear about the dos and don’ts. The IIGC aims to clear these ambiguities by providing guidelines for all parties.

Introducing Weekly Ratings for Transparency
To bring greater transparency to influencer content, the IIGC has introduced the Indian Influencer Ratings. This weekly power list, modelled after TV viewership data, will highlight the Top five: Trendsetters, Underdogs, Violators, and Brands.
- Trendsetters: Creators who influence other creators.
- Underdoggs: Emerging talent with a loyal, fast-growing audience.
- Don’t Do That: A cautionary list spotlighting content violations as per the Code of Standards.
- Brand Influence: Brands that nailed storytelling and engagement.
The IIGC hopes to recognise meaningful and quality content by launching these weekly ratings while holding influencers accountable for their actions.
The Importance of the Code of Standards for the Creator Economy
The Code of Standards has generated significant interest and admiration, with influencers and brands recognising it as the “need of the hour.” Deepali Nair, CMO at CK Birla Group, emphasised that collaboration between influencers, brands, and consumers was crucial to creating a sustainable ecosystem. She added that the Code of Standards has a “soul” and would leave a legacy in the influencer and creator economy.
The Future of Ethical Influencer Marketing
The IIGC is not stopping here. Soon, the council will introduce creator and brand memberships, workshops, certification programs, and platform partnerships. These initiatives will further support influencers, brands, and consumers in promoting ethical content creation.
By offering structured guidance and tools to navigate the influencer landscape, the IIGC aims to bring responsibility and credibility to India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
