The Golden Goose: Snapchat’s New Monetisation Program
Read how Snapchat is helping creators earn with ads, views and creativity alongside Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
Like creators on Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, dear Snapchat users, you can earn money now, too. Imagine turning your time pass for sharing fun and engaging stories into a steady income. Snapchat, one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, has introduced a new initiative that rewards creators for their content.
With the Unified Monetisation Program, creators can make money by simply doing what they love, creating and sharing content. But before you get too excited, there’s more to Snapchat than posting random snaps. Snapchat has specific rules, and meeting these could only unlock earnings.
Ready? Let me take you into the details and show you how this program works.
Just a step towards supporting creators!
Snapchat has been about self-expression, and now it’s also trying to reward creators for their creativity and efforts. This new program brings ads into stories and spotlights videos, opening up new revenue opportunities. With this, creators can monetise their work more. This also brings more usage and interaction to the app and gives creators a reason to stick around and keep posting regularly.
Spotlight is Snapchat’s short-form video feature, which has seen a 25% growth in viewership over the last year. Recognising its popularity, Snapchat added monetisation options for videos longer than one minute, which will be launched on February 1, 2025.
Who can join the program?
Of course, it’s not as simple as YouTube and not everyone can jump in. Snapchat has set eligibility criteria for the Unified Monetisation Program.
What do you need to have/do?
- You need at least 50,000 followers on your Public Profile.
- Post at least 25 times a month on either Saved Stories or Spotlight.
- Post to either Spotlight or Public Stories on 10 out of the last 28 days.
- In the last 28 days, you must meet one of these benchmarks:
- 10 million Snap views
- 1 million Spotlight views
- 12,000 hours of watch time
These requirements ensure that only committed, influential creators are rewarded. It could be better, but this is Snapchat’s way of valuing effort and consistency.
Just Stories and Spotlights? More Ways to Earn
Snapchat also introduced another opportunity for creators who consistently post engaging Stories. Ads will be placed between the Snaps in Public Stories and creators will receive a share of the revenue.
The payout system is flexible. We can cash out daily if we earn a minimum of $100. You don’t have to make it too complicated; payouts are simple, too, and can be done directly in the app. Snapchat also offers clear guidelines to help creators maximise their rewards.
This is an option for India creators, which is a relief, but if would you like to know more about other countries’ eligibility or how to meet all these criteria, find that information Here!
Let’s talk about content! What makes great returns?
- Post to your Public Story for at least 10 days in 28 days. On each of those days, aim for at least 20 Snaps.
- Bright colours, dynamic motion and captions can bring more viewers and keep them hooked. Your first Snap for the day matters the most, so, make it eye-catching.
- Snapchatters love to interact with creators who share real and relatable content. Replying to Stories’ comments is a great way to connect with your followers.
- Posting longer Stories leads to better engagement, which could mean higher earnings.
- To join this program, you must be at least 18 (or the legal age of majority in your country).
- All content must follow Snapchat’s Community Guidelines and be suitable for advertisers. That means no inappropriate or offensive material.
Why is Snapchat paying unexpectedly?
Especially in India, Snapchat has seen a rise in public posts over the past year. This program shows their commitment to supporting and helping creators. It is definitely beneficial two-way. From the Snap Star Collab Studio to the Monetisation Program, Snapchat made the platform more rewarding for creators.
“They remain committed to evolving and expanding the total rewards available to creators. It’s their way of making it easier for creators to succeed and be rewarded for authenticity.”

Does this matter?
Yes, many school and college students are always on Snapchat rather than Instagram and YouTube. They dream of becoming social media influencers, and Snapchat’s new initiative is their golden ticket into the chocolate factory. It’s no longer just about having fun with Snaps; it’s turning a consistent and creative community into income.
If you think this program is just about earning money, let me tell you. It’s about recognising creators for their simple work and valuing a certain type of social media user.
I conclude asking…
Are you a creator who meets the criteria? Better don’t wait; start preparing now. February is just a month away.
Who knows? Your next Snap could be the beginning of something big. Remember, Snapchat’s mantra is simple: keep it real & snappy and engage your community.
So, are you ready to take your Snaps to the next level? All the best!
