mango and basil content creators - the reelstars

Suprateek Banerjee, a Bengali with roots in Benaras, and Daniela Barone, a spirited Neapolitan, have captured the hearts of millions with their infectious laughter and relatable content. The duo, known online as Mango and Basil, have transformed their cross-cultural love story into a thriving digital platform that celebrates diversity and human connection with good humour. Here’s everything we know about the @aamandbasil couple!

How a Bengali man and Italian woman fell in love..

Their paths converged unexpectedly through a language exchange app. Suprateek, a PhD student in Germany, sought to expand his linguistic horizons beyond German and Spanish. Drawn to the passion and expressiveness of Italian, he signed up for a language tandem, offering English in exchange for Italian lessons. Fate intervened when he was paired with Daniela, a PhD graduate preparing for her IELTS exam.

Their initial interactions were centered around language correction, but a deeper connection soon blossomed. Suprateek’s subsequent trip to Naples revealed surprising cultural similarities, and Daniela’s visit to Kolkata solidified their bond. They discovered a shared love for life, family, and food that transcended geographical boundaries.

And went on to become a successful comedy creator duo.

The couple’s decision to document their lives online was born out of a desire to share their unique perspective with the world. Tired of the monotony of their daily routines during the COVID-19 pandemic, they turned to comedy as an escape. With Suprateek’s passion for stand-up comedy and Daniela’s natural comedic flair, they began crafting short videos that captured the essence of their cross-cultural experiences.

The duo embraced a collaborative approach to content creation. They shared responsibilities, taking turns writing, acting, and editing. Their creative process was marked by laughter, experimentation, and a deep understanding of each other’s strengths. They now have a 158K strong following on Instagram and 166K subscribers on YouTube, who love the duo’s banter!

@aamandbasil is a celebration of cultural diversity, with a good laugh thrown in

Mango and Basil’s content is a refreshing departure from stereotypical couple vlogs. Their videos offer a genuine and relatable portrayal of intercultural relationships. By highlighting the humorous quirks of their lives together, they have created a space where audiences can connect with their shared human experiences. Through their content, they have demonstrated that differences can be a source of enrichment (and entertainment) rather than division. Funny videos of Basil learning Bengali words and sounds are especially popular amongst their audience: watch below!

With their infectious energy, witty banter, and genuine connection, Mango and Basil have solidified their position as a beloved online duo. The enduring appeal of laughter, and the ability to create something extraordinary from ordinary life have allowed them to keep growing their online community.
