2gether the series bright and win - The Reelstars

History is unfolding in Thailand! On Wednesday 27th March 2024, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage. Besides, a landmark decision for LGBTQIA+ rights in Southeast Asia. This vote positions Thailand to become the first nation in the region and the third in Asia(after Taiwan and Nepal). However, to recognize marriage equality. Coming from the land of the best BL dramas, we’re not surprised!

While the news is undoubtedly positive, it’s important to understand the bill’s current stage. The passed bill requires further approval from the Senate and endorsement by the King before becoming law. This process could take several months. If enacted, the bill would be a significant step forward for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in Thailand. The country has a reputation for openness towards LGBTQIA+ individuals, but legal protections haven’t always kept pace with social attitudes. The bill would mark a clear shift towards ensuring equal rights for all Thai citizens.

Update on Thailand same-sex marriage bill:

The Thailand senate has endorsed the same-sex marriage bill. Already approved by the house of representatives, the bill also received overwhelming support in the 250-member senate. 130 of the members voted in favour of the bill. Once enacted, this will be the third Asian country after Taiwan and Nepal to recognise same-sex marriage.
