Read everything about director Sanoj Mishra's arrest and what it means for viral Kumbh Mela star Monalisa's uncertain future.

Delhi Police have arrested filmmaker Sanoj Mishra in connection with a rape case following the rejection of his bail plea by the Delhi High Court. The 45-year-old director, who recently made headlines for offering a film role to Maha Kumbh viral sensation Monalisa, was taken into custody in Ghaziabad on March 30, 2025. He was later moved to Nabi Karim Police Station in Delhi for further legal action.
The Serious Allegations Against Sanoj Mishra
A 28-year-old aspiring actress has accused Mishra of sexually assaulting her multiple times over four years. According to the complaint, she first met the filmmaker via Instagram in 2020 while living in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The actress alleged that Mishra emotionally manipulated her by threatening suicide and pressured her into a meeting.
She claimed that on June 18, 2021, Mishra took her to a resort, drugged her, and raped her. Over time, he allegedly blackmailed her using explicit photos and videos, forcing her into a live-in relationship in Mumbai with promises of marriage and a film career. She further alleged that she underwent three forced abortions during this period.
Now, What’s Next for Monalisa?
With Mishra now in custody, questions arise about Monalisa’s future. Did the promise of stardom vanish along with the filmmaker’s arrest? Will she still find opportunities in the industry, or will her dreams fade?
So far, there is no confirmation about her film career progressing. Many netizens who once celebrated her journey now wonder if she has returned to selling beads and garlands, her original means of survival. While her moment of viral fame gave her hope, the industry is unpredictable, and it remains to be seen if another opportunity will come her way.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Following the victim’s complaint, Delhi Police registered an FIR on March 6, 2024, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape, assault, causing miscarriage, and criminal intimidation. The victim stated under Section 164 of the CrPC, and medical records from Muzaffarnagar confirmed forced abortions.

Among those affected by this controversy is Monalisa Bholsle, the 16-year-old garland seller who gained overnight fame at the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025. Social media catapulted her into the limelight, with netizens captivated by her eyes, traditional beauty and grace.
