HanuMankind’s “Big Dawgs” isn’t just a song; it’s become a cultural phenomenon that’s brought the Indian rapper attention globally! With its infectious beats, daring visuals, and a performance that defies gravity, the track has catapulted this Indian rapper into the global spotlight. This viral sensation has not only introduced the world to HanuMankind but has also put Indian music on the world map. And this week, the rapper and Kalmi made their first career entries on the Billboard chart with Big Dawgs at no. 57!

From Malappuram to Texas..

Behind the stage name is Sooraj Cherukat, a young man with roots firmly planted in the southern Indian state of Kerala. His journey to stardom is a testament to his talent, resilience, and unwavering passion for music. Growing up in Malappuram, Cherukat’s early days were far removed from the glamorous world of showbiz. Yet, the seeds of creativity were sown during these formative years. With a knack for rhythm and a love for storytelling, he began experimenting with music, laying the groundwork for the artist he would eventually become.

Influenced by the vibrant music scene of Houston, Texas, where he spent a significant part of his life, Cherukat’s sound is a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences. This fusion of cultures is evident in his music, which seamlessly blends traditional Indian melodies with contemporary hip-hop and electronic elements.

And back to Bengaluru.

Before becoming a full-time musician, Hanumankind embarked on a conventional career path. After spending his formative years in Houston, Texas, he returned to India in 2012 to pursue a degree in Business Administration. Following a stint at Goldman Sachs, he worked in the corporate world before deciding to fully dedicate himself to music. His decision to leave the corporate world and pursue his passion for rap is a testament to his unwavering belief in his artistic vision.

With his debut EP, “Kalari,” released in 2019, and subsequent tracks like “The Last Dance,” featured in the Malayalam film “Aavesham,” Hanumankind has steadily built a strong discography. Beyond his solo career, Hanumankind is a core member of the Bangalore-based band, Tillapes. Alongside Doc.Awes, Soorya Praveen, Sange Wangchuk, Philip John, and Gautam David, he brings his signature energy and creativity to the group’s dynamic sound. Tillapes has been making waves in the Indian music scene with their fusion of hip-hop, neo-soul, and electronic elements. Listen to their 2024 single “Yuh” here!

Getting on the global map with Big Dawgs!

“Big Dawgs” is more than just another song from the rapper. Moreover, it’s what’s put him (and Indian rappers) on the global map! The music video, shot in the heart of Kerala, is a visual spectacle that has captured the imagination of millions. The daring decision to shoot the video within a traditional ‘maut ka kuan‘ (well of death) turned out to be career defining! And the BTS only goes to show just how much fun they had during the shoot despite the obviously dangerous stunts.

The YouTube video currently has a staggering 30,111,929 views and the song has been played 37,154,768 times on Spotify already!

The song’s success is a watershed moment for Indian music. It has shattered stereotypes and proved that artists from India can compete on a global stage. HanuMankind has not only gained millions of fans but has also inspired a new generation of musicians to pursue their dreams.

As HanuMankind continues to evolve as an artist, the world watches with bated breath. His journey is far from over, and there’s no doubt. However, he will continue to break new ground and redefine the boundaries of Indian music.
