Niharika NM’s Silver Screen Debut
Read everything about the internet's comedy queen, who is set to debut in Tamil and Telugu cinema with back-to-back film projects.
You have certainly come across Niharika NM’s hilarious and relatable reels scrolling through Instagram. Niharika is known for her expressive comedy and unfiltered storytelling. She is now hopping into the cinemas. With a Tamil debut, Perusu, on the horizon and multiple Tamil and Telugu projects in the pipeline, Niharika shows the power of content creation.
Everything about the Debut
Perusu is her debut movie, directed by Ilango Ram. The first look poster was unveiled on Pongal, 2025, and the Teaser was released last week, featuring Niharika alongside Vaibhav, Sunil, and Karunakaran. Niharika shared this on Instagram, captioning the post, “Let’s just say that the Perusu Pedha problem refuses to go down and is standing tall, making it impossible to ignore. A Fun, Family Funeral film. Heartfelt thanks to Venkat Prabhu for unveiling this look.”
But that’s not all. She’s locked in several other big-ticket projects, making her entry into other film industries.
Into the Tollywood
Tollywood has been looking for fresh faces, and Niharika NM is stepping up to the scale. Unlike many debutants, she doesn’t have a single launchpad; she’s entering the cinemas with multiple projects across different genres and industries. One of her confirmed projects is under the banner of Geetha Arts. She has also signed four other Telugu films, adding to the excitement of her silver screen chapter.
Rigorous Training to Act
Born in Chennai and raised in Bengaluru, Niharika pursued her MBA from Chapman University in California. While she always had a flair for theatre, she never imagined stepping into mainstream cinema. “I didn’t think I dared to dream that big,” she said in an interview. But fate had other plans. After rigorous training under Shanoo Sharma, the well-known casting director associated with Yash Raj Films, Niharika spent over a year and a half preparing to act.
Her journey from social media to cinema wasn’t overnight. For over 10 years, she built a fanbase by creating engaging and relatable content on YouTube and Instagram, eventually earning over 3 million followers and almost 3 million subscribers. She even represented India at Global YouTube’s Creators for Change program for two consecutive years.
Multiple Films, Multiple Expectations
Apart from Perusu, she has signed a three-film deal with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Creations, a comedy with Geetha Arts, a crime thriller with S Originals and Waltair Productions, and a collaboration with Lyca Productions. Another film is in the works, the details of which are still under wraps. And that’s not all, she’s also starring alongside Atharvaa in a Tamil film directed by Akash Baskaran. Adding to her list of achievements, she guest-starred on the American animated sitcom Big Mouth.
Niharika’s Heartfelt Response at an Interview
“I’m owning my roots. I was born in Chennai, my parents are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and I was raised in Bengaluru, so my life has always been a mix of languages and cultures!”
She revealed that she learned Hindi only in the last two years, while Telugu, Tamil and Kannada have been a part of her life since childhood. Naturally, she felt more comfortable starting her film career in the South.
