‘Prashant’ Meme: A Croissant, A Mispronunciation, and a Viral Moment

Every now and then, a simple, unexpected moment grabs everyone’s attention on the Internet. One such incident is the “Prashant” meme, a hilarious mispronunciation that turned into a viral internet sensation. It all began with a content creator named Ayush, who has, perhaps unwittingly, sparked a meme-fest with one of his playful language-learning videos.

From Reel to Real Meme Mania

In a now-viral Instagram reel, Ayush was learning dessert names through an AI tutorial. When a picture of a croissant popped up, the AI asked, “What is this called?” Ayush confidently guessed “Patties,” and when corrected by the AI voice saying “Croissant,” he misheard it and exclaimed, “Prashant?”. This one word led to an internet moment no one saw coming.

The innocent slip-up spread like wildfire on social media. With over 19 million views and 1 million shares, Ayush’s video had viewers laughing nonstop. Soon after, users started recreating the audio clip, adding creative spins and lip-syncing to Ayush’s humorous guess.

The hashtag #Prashant quickly flooded Instagram, becoming a hub for thousands of memes and videos inspired by the viral mispronunciation. But it wasn’t just users who joined the trend—brands also saw the opportunity and jumped in.

Brands Turn ‘Prashant’ into Marketing Gold

  • Swiggy shared a croissant image on X with the playful caption: “Tum Prashant bologe, hum croissant samajh lenge.” This witty take struck a chord with users and got millions of views.
  • Britannia went one step further by temporarily rebranding its social media handle to Britannia. Prashant and updating its bio to: “Prashant, naam to suna hi hoga” (You must have heard the name Prashant).
  • The brand even shared a hilarious edit of its Treat Croissant packaging, where the word “Croissant” was replaced with “Prashant.” This creative twist won hearts and boosted the meme’s reach.

Ayush’s Special Surprise from Britannia

To celebrate the creator who made “Prashant” viral, Britannia sent Ayush a special hamper containing their rebranded “Prashant” croissants. Shekhar Agarwal, General Manager of Marketing at Britannia, explained the logic behind this viral campaign. He said, “This wasn’t just a momentary stunt but part of our larger effort to build awareness about our Treat Croissant product by tapping into this viral moment.”
