Sanjay Leela Bhansali set to make OTT debut with Heeramandi on Netflix

Netflix will host filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series, a star-studded saga titled Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, in 2024.

Hailed as the grandest and most-awaited series of the year, the creative visionary, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is set to unveil his 14-year passion project in collaboration with Netflix, to global audiences.

The series promises to be a profound celebration of art, culture, beauty, and Bhansali’s legacy.

The series comprises a cast that includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

Bhansali told media that the ideas for the series has been in the works for 14 years now, and that the 8 episodes he has created have been very demanding, and that Heeramandi has a special place in his heart.

The plot goes somewhat like this – In the midst of a power struggle in Heeramandi, a young heir caught in the crossfire chooses love over succession, disrupting the status quo. Set in pre-independent India against a burgeoning freedom movement, the final thread holding the art of tawaifs (courtesans) is put to the test.
