Why I’m Hooked On Moment Of Silence, And You Will Be Too (Review)
Moment of Silence is a podcast filled with plenty of laughs, some genuine insights, and the comfortable feeling of eavesdropping on a conversation between friends.
Recently, I’ve been hooked on “Moment of Silence,” the refreshingly candid podcast hosted by Sakshi Shivdasani and Naina Bhan. The show, which recently clinched the Cosmopolitan India Blogger Awards for Podcaster of the Year 2024, brings a delightful mix of authenticity and relatability to topics that young women often discuss in private but rarely find space for in mainstream media. And, I’ll tell you why I think you should tune in to this podcast too!
You know those friends who can yap for hours and never bore you? That’s Sakshi and Naina.
They bounce off each other with an ease that makes you feel like you’re part of their inner circle. Their conversations flow effortlessly, whether they’re discussing the complexities of dating in your twenties or the challenges of making friends in new cities.
They’re also the friends you would share pretty much everything with…
In their recent episode featuring comedian Aaditya Kulshreshth (Kullu), the girls create such a comfortable atmosphere that their “Rakhi Brother” opens up about everything from his dating life to his experiences with therapy and anxiety. What I loved about this conversation was how they also managed to get honest answers about dating and relationships from a male perspective. When asked about how many times he’d been in love, Kullu’s response was endearingly authentic: “Three times,” followed by a thoughtful explanation about the difference between being in a relationship and being in love.
Another great episode on the podcast features the multi-talented Kusha Kapila. Their conversation delved into the challenges of making friends in your thirties, something I found incredibly relatable. Kusha’s candid admission – “I f***ing hate it. I have no friends in my thirties guys in Mumbai” – hit home for many listeners, I’m sure. The discussion about how sharing broker numbers is essentially “fourth base” in Mumbai friendship was hilarious and painfully accurate.
The podcast excels at creating a space where conversations feel like they’re happening between friends. Whether they’re discussing the challenges of daily vlogging, the realities of rejection in the entertainment industry, or the complexities of modern relationships, Sakshi and Naina maintain an engaging dialogue that keeps listeners coming back for more.
“Moment of Silence” tackles both light-hearted and serious topics with ease.
In one moment, they’re sharing laughs about dating adventures, and in the next, they’re discussing the isolation that comes with different life stages. As Kusha points out in her episode, “Female friendships really suffer… first when you move to the next phase of your life, you’re looking after other people… and then three years later, you find your friend again.”
Kusha also mentions, “It’s not easy to make new friends at my age. People are set in their ways. Gangs are already made.” Something that I think would resonate deeply with anyone who’s ever tried to build a social circle in a new city.
I particularly enjoy how they create a safe space for their guests to be vulnerable. When Kusha opened up about dealing with Reddit comments and how therapy helped her cope, it wasn’t just celebrity gossip – it was a genuine conversation about mental health and social media’s impact on well-being.
All-in-all MOS has dished out some great episodes since the duo started the podcast a year ago.
The podcast excels at what it sets out to do: provide a platform for women to discuss topics that matter to them, from dating and friendship to career and social media, all while maintaining a conversational tone that feels like you’re hanging out with friends. The awards they’ve won this year are all well-deserved recognition for creating content that resonates with their audience while keeping it real and relatable.
