Lara Dutta Warns Against Unrealistic Expectations and The Truth Behind Fashion

Don’t Be Fooled by Social Media Glitz

It’s easy to get caught up in the lure of perfection. The glitzy photos, the flawless appearances, and the shiny designer clothes. Everything seems so real, right? But Lara Dutta, the celebrated Bollywood actress, has something important to say to young people about the so-called glamorous lives of influencers.

Celebrities Aren’t Always What They Seem

In a candid conversation on Queenie Singh‘s Beauty by BiE podcast, Lara opened up about the untold truth of celebrity fashion. “A lot of influencers including myself, wear borrowed clothes 99% of the time,” she revealed. “We look amazing at events, with stunning designer dresses, perfect hair, and expensive jewellery. But it’s all borrowed and it goes back after the event,” she said, urging everyone to remember: That’s not reality.

Lara shared that the glitz you see on your screens often hides the truth. The idea that celebrities and influencers own every luxury they show off is just a facade. So next time you scroll through your feed and feel envious, remember that the “perfect” life may not be what it seems.

Filters Aren’t Reality Either

With social media flooded with heavily filtered photos, Lara shared her concern about how this is affecting young minds. She explained that young people often forget that what they see online is heavily edited. “With all these filters, people aren’t even showing their real selves anymore,” she added. “It’s scary how we’ve come to accept this as normal.”

Lara’s worry is especially for young boys and girls, including her nieces. They are growing up believing that their worth is tied to how they appear on social media. The instant pull towards likes and comments can be addictive. Additionally, when nasty comments pop up, they can shake someone’s sense of self. She said it’s time to teach young people to understand their worth beyond these filters and online validation.

Raising Stronger & Grounded Kids

We need to raise the next generation to be stronger and more grounded. Kids need to understand who they are and what truly defines them. “It’s not about looking perfect or having the latest fashion. It’s about self-worth and confidence,” she said.

Lara shared that everything on social media is doctored, and young people should not measure their self-esteem by shallow standards. “It’s a revolution in a bad way,” she warned, referring to how social media affects mental health. The constant need for approval and validation is taking a toll on the younger generation, and it’s time we acknowledge it.

The Reality Check

While we continue to enjoy the glam of celebrities, let’s not forget that social media is far from the truth. Lara Dutta’s words serve as a reality check. It’s high time to stop comparing ourselves to unrealistic standards and start embracing authenticity, inside and out. After all, it’s not the borrowed clothes or edited photos that make us, but the real, unfiltered version.
