Mamta Sharma Das-The Reelstars

Handloom products are known for their eco-friendliness and sustainability. Unlike mass-produced textiles, handloom weaving uses minimal energy and produces little waste, making it an environmentally responsible choice. No wonder, National Handloom Day is a day when we tip our hats to not just the weavers and crafts persons, but also those who promote a sustainable lifestyle.

There are several creators, influencers, and celebrities who actively support the handloom industry and are known for wearing sarees, showcasing the beauty and versatility of this traditional Indian attire.

One of them is Mamta Sharma Das, popularly known as TheBohoBaalika, a prominent influencer and content creator for sustainable living

Mamta is known for her unique and eclectic fashion sense, and frequently showcases handloom and traditional textiles. She combines modern and traditional elements in her wardrobe, often highlighting the beauty and versatility of handloom sarees and other traditional attire. Through her fashion choices, she supports local artisans and promotes the handloom industry. She is renowned for her love for sarees, which she regularly showcases on her Instagram account, @thebohobaalika. With a fun and engaging username, she has amassed a following of 144K followers who are inspired by her unique approach to styling Indian ethnic wear.

Mamta not only wears handloom sarees but also uses her platforms to educate their audiences about the significance of supporting the handloom industry, thus helping to preserve this important aspect of India’s cultural heritage. Last year, she shared a video of exploring the indigenous craft of Ikat from Pochampally, a village just about a couple of hours from Hyderabad, which is also regarded as the Ikat Capital of India. About Mamta

Mamta is originally from Delhi and is of Punjabi heritage. From her school years, she was drawn to unconventional and bohemian jewellery and clothing. She often crafted her own bead jewellery and used rocks to create unique pieces. Married to a Bengali, she relocated to Kolkata but on her daughter’s third birthday, they discovered she was on the autism spectrum. This marked a challenging period for Mamta. As she sought to educate herself on how to better care for her child, she realized that returning to the corporate world was no longer an option. That’s when a friend reached out to her, knowing Mamta’s creative side, suggested she start blogging. Mamta then reactivated her Instagram profile, providing her with a fresh start and the chance to carve out a niche for herself.

Through her work as TheBohoBaalika, Mamta Sharma Das continues to inspire and influence many, encouraging them to embrace sustainable living, appreciate traditional crafts, and lead a mindful and conscious life.
