Meghalaya Government Empowers Youth and Creators with New Initiatives
The Meghalaya government is taking a big leap forward in supporting its young talent and fostering a vibrant creative scene within the state. Two key initiatives, the launch of the “Hello Meghalaya” OTT platform and the Meghalaya Content Creator Awards 2024, aim to empower aspiring filmmakers, musicians, and content creators.
Hello Meghalaya: A Platform for Local Talent
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma officially unveiled “Hello Meghalaya” on Thursday, a government-run OTT platform specifically designed to showcase and monetize the creative output of Meghalaya’s youth. This move seeks to engage the state’s large youth population in productive pursuits and stimulate economic growth.
The platform offers a diverse range of content, including movies, music videos, short films, and more. To incentivize creators, filmmakers can earn up to Rs. 5 lakhs per film, with additional funding available for projects receiving national or international acclaim. Additionally, content creators can receive a monthly income of Rs. 18,000 for uploading content, with the potential for even greater earnings based on viewership.
For an added boost, the government plans to stream key live events on the app, showcasing the state’s football league matches, music festivals, and initiatives like the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP).
Meghalaya Content Creator Awards: Recognizing Excellence
The launch of “Hello Meghalaya” coincided with the prestigious Meghalaya Content Creator Awards 2024. This event celebrates and acknowledges the exceptional creative talent and dedication of Meghalaya’s content creators across various fields.
The awards ceremony saw the presence of prominent figures like Chief Minister Sangma, Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh, and other esteemed guests. Speaking at the event, Minister Lyngdoh highlighted the MGMP’s success in supporting over 3,000 musicians in earning a livelihood through music.
