Prajakta Koli’s Book Tops Bestsellers, But Should The Credits Be Going To More Than MostlySane?
When Prajakta Koli announced her debut novel "Too Good to Be True," I couldn't help but think back to her call for writers earlier this year...
Prajakta Koli’s debut novel has just made it to the top of Amazon India’s Bestsellers List, and that’s just from pre-orders! But..is this latest win from the popular creator “Too Good to Be True?” I couldn’t help but think back to her social media call for writers earlier in January this year. Those cryptic posts about seeking writing talent had everyone guessing – was it for a show, a film, or something entirely different? Now, we’re left wondering if it was for this book, despite claims otherwise.
As one amongst the millions of users who’ve followed Koli’s career, I find her transition into novel writing both intriguing and impressive. Back in January, she put out a call for writers that had the internet buzzing with speculation. At the time, she claimed it was for a film or show, but the publishing world works in mysterious ways. Looking at the book now, I can’t help but wonder about those collaborative roots. There’s many a popular writer who’s hired ghostwriters for their bestsellers, albeit involved in varying capacities in the writing process. And as someone who’s done a lot of ghostwriting in the last decade, I say this from personal experience.
But the hype around the book isn’t surprising…
HarperCollins isn’t just publishing any debut novel – they’re backing a creator who has proven her storytelling chops across multiple platforms. The book’s premise feels quintessentially Koli: a bookstore romance that plays with the very idea of romance novels. Avani, the protagonist, sounds like she could be a character straight out of Koli’s digital content – relatable, slightly anxious, and navigating the complexities of modern love. Quite similar to her character Dimple on Mismatched in a way.
The novel seems to capture her signature style – witty, contemporary, and deeply personal. HarperCollins clearly sees something special in her voice, positioning the book as a potential bestseller in the romance genre next year. Her track record of connecting with young audiences across different media makes this debut particularly exciting, and a sure win for the publishing house too.
Of course, the whispers about those earlier writing collaborations add an extra layer of intrigue. While the book is officially credited to Koli, the publishing world knows that many debut novels benefit from behind-the-scenes support.
It’s not a criticism – just a realistic understanding of how creative projects often come together.
The timing is interesting too. With the third season of “Mismatched” coming out in December and now this book launch in January, it feels like Prajakta is closing one chapter and opening another. Her ability to move between mediums – from digital content to acting to now writing – is something that sets her apart in the Indian entertainment landscape. One thing’s certain – Prajakta Koli isn’t afraid to take creative risks, and as someone quite involved in the creator-verse, I think that’s always worth celebrating.
I’m genuinely curious to see how readers will receive this novel. Will it be as successful as her digital content? Will it resonate with her existing fan base and attract new fans too? However, circling back to the credits…I hope any possible “behind-the-scenes” contributors get some acknowledgement too.
