Dholi Meena: Celebrating Cultures and Sankranti In Europe

When we think of reaching great heights, it’s usually a metaphor. But for Dholi Meena, it’s both literal and cultural. A tribal woman from Rajasthan’s Dausa district has not only hoisted the Indian tricolour on Mount Etna, Europe’s highest and most dangerous volcano but also carried the essence of India’s traditions.

There’s more, read about her social media and real life to feel inspired and proud!

A Tribal Woman Till the Summit of Europe

Born as Nirma Meena in Nimali village of Rajasthan. Dholi Meena’s story is rooted in simplicity and courage, she was married to Lokesh Meena, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. She currently resides in Europe. She hasn’t let her Rajasthani roots fade; she scaled Mount Etna’s 3,357-metre volcanic peak in her traditional ghaghra-lugdi, performing a daring act to prove the richness of her culture symbolically. Videos of her waving the Indian flag at the summit have gone viral, earning her admiration from across the globe.

Cultural Custodian in a Foreign Land

Dholi Meena is more than a mountaineer; she’s a cultural ambassador. Known for her desi style, she is often seen in traditional Rajasthani attire, even while participating in European events. Her social media presence has made her a popular influencer, where she promotes Indian and Rajasthani culture. She doesn’t just celebrate festivals; she recreates them abroad, bringing ours and their people together. During the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha in Europe, she made headlines by inspiring crowds to chant Lord Ram’s name.

Just yesterday, she celebrated Makar Sankranti in Malta, gathering over 150 members of the Rajasthani crowd for kite flying, traditional games, and cultural programs. The event wasn’t just a celebration but a unifying moment for Indians abroad, showcasing her knack for building communities.

A Star at Malta Fashion Week

Dholi Meena isn’t confined to cultural festivals. She was one of the chief guests at the Malta Fashion Week, representing India in her traditional attire. Her performance of the Rajasthani folk dance Ghoomar at the Miss Universe Malta competition left an audience from over 50 countries mesmerised. She also set up a stall featuring Rajasthani delicacies like dal-baati-churma, which was declared the best stall in the event and was offered a prize.

Her influence extends far beyond cultural gatherings. Recently, a video of her on a Maltese beach went viral, amassing 100 million views. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about inspiring others, particularly women in Europe, to embrace traditional Indian clothing.

A Life Rooted in Values

Dholi Meena’s achievements are grounded in her love for her heritage. She continues to celebrate Indian festivals with zeal and introduces the world to the richness of Rajasthani culture. Whether preparing dal-baati for a community event or hoisting the tricolour on a volcano, her actions speak volumes about her commitment to her roots.
