Riding Against the Odds: Tameem Ansari’s Story
The one-armed cyclist and influencer Tameem Ansari, completing a record-breaking 6,000 km journey across India and achieving many more.

Tameem Ansari, a 38-year-old cyclist from Tamil Nadu, is proving that physical limitations are no obstacle to ambitions. Despite losing his right hand in an accident, he has cycled over 52,000 km, including a solo ride from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Now, he is on a 6,000 km journey across India, inspiring us, promoting fitness, and spreading awareness on social issues.
Cycling for a Purpose
Tameem’s latest adventure is a 6,000 km solo cycling expedition across India, covering major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai before returning to Bengaluru. His mission extends beyond personal achievement; he wants to encourage people to stay fit, maintain cleanliness, and never let physical challenges define them.
Through his previous cycling expeditions, he met numerous people deeply moved by his story. A young autorickshaw driver once wept, saying that following Tameem’s journey helped him battle alcoholism. Such encounters fuel Tameem’s desire to continue riding and inspiring others.
Rising Above Challenges
Tameem’s story is full of courage and determination. At the age of 18, he lost his right arm in a factory accident while working with a machine that produced nails and screws. Instead of dwelling on what was lost, he focused on what was still possible. Years later, in 2021, he uncovered his cycling passion and never looked back.
Despite his family’s initial hesitation, he took up long-distance cycling, eventually earning recognition in the record books. The physical challenge of steering with one hand did not deter him. He believes that real obstacles lie not in physical disabilities but in the mind.
Live the Road Life Like Tameem Ansari
When travelling long distances, Tameem often camps at petrol pumps or checks into budget lodges when necessary. Cyclists and bikers from different cities frequently host him, offering food and support. Through his social media updates, many help him connect with well-wishers who ride alongside him during parts of his journey.
With a disciplined routine, he cycles 50-100 km daily and regularly practices endurance rides. He dreams of representing India in the Paralympics and seeks guidance to make it a reality.
Achievements and Recognition
Tameem’s cycling feats have earned him a mention in the Limca Book of Records, and he has applied for a Guinness World Record for his Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari ride. He also holds a record with Audax India Randonneurs, completing a 200 km ride in 13 hours and a 300 km ride in 18.5 hours.
Shriram Life Insurance recognised his efforts and supported his mission to spread awareness about insurance. His record-breaking ride also qualifies for the Fastest Unsupported Crossing of India N-S by Bicycle (AA1) (male).
Different Cycles, Different Times
Tameem cycles with a Focus and Trek bike, carrying essentials like water, an emergency medical kit, and a puncture repair kit. Though he cannot fix a flat tyre alone, he believes help always finds him when needed.
Balancing his passion with financial struggles, he runs a document correction agency from his home in Chennai. His niece’s small act of stealing money to help him once inspired him to chase bigger dreams.
Beyond Cycling
Tameem does not just cycle for records. He has pedalled 3,500 km to spread awareness about smartphone addiction among children, urging parents to regulate screen time and encourage outdoor activities. He actively collaborates with organisations for charity rides, advocating for social causes like suicide prevention.
The Road is Endless for Tameem
With each ride, he finds new challenges, meets inspiring people, and continues his mission. Wishing his dream to represent India in the Paralympics to come true so he can make his mark on the world stage.
His message is simple: disability does not define ability.
