What are the WAVES Awards for India’s Influencers?

India’s content creation scene has received another boost with the WAVES Awards, announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. These awards will honour the best influencers, podcasters, animation makers, game developers and other content creators from across the country. Nominations opened on February 15, 2025, and creators across various disciplines can compete in categories like Game of the Year, Film of the Year and Advertising Campaign of the Year.

The WAVES awards will also present Special Selection Awards to those contribute significantly in the technology and social sectors.

Imagine winning an award for simply doing what you love, creating content that resonates with audiences. This WAVES Awards spotlight you as India’s best creative talent and give you the recognition you deserve. You will be part of a bigger vision to position India as a global capital of content creation with the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES).

Making India the hub of content creation

Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasised that these awards are part of a larger vision to position India as a global capital of content creation. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi joined the announcement at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.

The awards are designed to highlight India’s rich tradition of storytelling and cultural significance, known globally as the ‘Orange Economy.’ According to Vaishnaw, “WAVES is an effort to carry forward India’s cultural legacy, echoing the global impact Swami Vivekananda once made.”

If you’re a creator, this is your time to shine. Nominations are open, visit the official WAVES website for more details or read from The Reelstars.
