Threads Hits 300 Million Users; Meta’s Tex-Based Platform Sees Rapid Growth In 2024
Will Threads be able to cross the number of users on X by 2025? At the rate it's currently growing, they just might!
Threads, Meta’s text-based social media platform, has achieved a significant milestone by reaching 300 million monthly active users this week. Adam Mosseri, the Instagram and Threads chief, announced this impressive growth, highlighting the platform’s rapid ascent in the social media landscape.
The platform has demonstrated an extraordinary growth trajectory. It went from 100 million to 200 million monthly active users in just 10 months, and then remarkably accelerated to 300 million in less than half that time. This quick expansion reflects the platform’s appeal and potential to challenge existing social media networks.
Mosseri revealed that Threads has 100 million daily active users.
While this is impressive, it represents a 33% daily to monthly active user ratio, compared to X’s 44%. This suggests there might be room for improvement in user engagement and retention.
Threads is not without competition. Bluesky, another alternative platform, attracted 25 million users during the U.S. election period. However, Threads remains the most downloaded app on iOS, indicating strong user interest.
At its current growth rate, Threads could potentially approach or even exceed X’s 570 million monthly active users. Meta continues to update the platform, recently improving link previews and adding new reaction icons to enhance user experience.
Ongoing Development
The Threads team is actively seeking user feedback, conducting surveys to refine their algorithms and content restrictions. This commitment to improvement suggests the platform is listening to its user base and working to create a more engaging social media experience.
Mosseri also announced another new update on Threads today:
“We’ll soon start testing scheduled Threads posts, which we’ve been working on for months. Replies cannot be scheduled — we want to balance giving people more control to plan their Threads posts while still encouraging real-time conversation. If you’re in the test, let me know what you think.”
While it may be challenging to maintain the current explosive growth, Threads has clearly struck a chord with users. Its clean interface, connection to Instagram, and focus on text-based communication offer a fresh alternative in the social media ecosystem.
Tips for New Threads Users
If you’re new to Threads, here are some practical tips to help you get started:
- Create a Comprehensive Profile: Link your Instagram account for an easy setup. Use a clear profile picture and write a concise bio that represents your personality or interests.
- Explore and Follow: Start by following accounts similar to those you enjoy on other platforms. Threads’ algorithm will help recommend more content based on your initial follows.
- Engage Actively: Comment, like, and repost content you find interesting. Engagement is key to building your network and improving your feed.
- Use Hashtags Strategically: While not as prominent as on some platforms, hashtags can help your content reach a broader audience.
- Experiment with Content: Try different types of posts – short thoughts, questions, observations, or casual updates. See what resonates with your audience.
As the platform continues to evolve, users can expect more features and improvements that aim to make Threads an essential part of their digital communication toolkit.
